Ada yang mencerca, ada pula yang memuja. Kedua sikap tersebut kerap kita temui kala mendengar musik-musik boyband Korea Selatan yang bukan sekedar marak, tetapi juga sudah merasuki telinga para remaja di Indonesia. Perkembangan dan invasi yang luar biasa dari musisi-musisi Asia bagian timur tersebut, dengan berbekal kemampuan menari dan wajah-wajah yang tampan dan cantik, berhasil menghipnotis sebagian besar remaja penggemar musik pop Indonesia.

Benua Asia memang selalu menawarkan trend musik yang kerap berbeda dengan telinga mainstream. Sebelum musik-musik Korea menjadi hype pada saat ini, Jepang telah terlebih dahulu menyajikan warna berbeda dalam karakter musikalitasnya. Warna musik tersebut pada akhirnya menjadi sebuah genretersendiri bernama J-rock, sempat digilai oleh pecinta musik di Indonesia.

Kini, trend musik kembali bergeser. Setelah invasi besar-besaran musik dari Jepang, giliran Korea Selatan mengadakan perubahan di bidang musik. Namun, ada sebuah perbedaan dalam invasi yang diusung oleh Negeri Ginseng tersebut. Bila Jepang membawa transformasi dengan mengusung genre dan dandanan unik, Korea Selatan justru tidak membawa sebuah perubahan yang begitu banyak dalam musik yang mereka bawa.

Gelombang tersebut tampaknya tidak hanya berputar di dalam Korea Selatan saja. Seiring dengan era globalisasi, musisi muda Korea Selatan juga ikut menyerbu pasar musik internasional. Bahkan Amerika yang disebut-sebut sebagai kiblat dari musik mainstream, takluk di bawah kaki para girlband Korea Selatan.
